On June 12, 1981, Raiders of the Lost Ark was realeased. Raiders was the first of the second film series that led Lucasfilm to success – the Indiana Jones series. The story was developed by both George Lucas and film director Steven Spielberg after the release of Star Wars. Becoming one of the highest grossing movies of the year, Raiders was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won four, including Best Visual Effects, which was awarded to Industrial Light & Magic for their work with the special effects in the film. This iconic movie led to the creation of three other Indiana Jones films as well as a television series called “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.”
