1982

E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, directed by Steven Spielberg, was released in this year. E.T. won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. Likewise, Skywalker Sound won Oscars for Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Sound for this film. E.T. passed Star Wars to become the highest-grossing film in America.

Also in 1982, LucasArts, the video games development branch of Lucasfilm, was made by Lucas. LucasArts started by creating video games that were technologically advanced. At first, creating adventure-type games, LucasArts did not see the same immediate success as ILM and Lucasfilm as a whole. However, in 1990, LucasArts began making video games based on the Star Wars series, which helped to boost their sales and growth. After Disney acquired Lucasfilm, in 2013, LucasArts ceased to exist as a part of Lucasfilm.
